Everton were second best against Leeds United last night and ultimately lost their Premier League opener 1-0.

The newly-promoted side made it really tricky for David Moyes’ side, who struggled to cope with the intense press.

It was a stark reminder that Everton still have a lot of business to do in the summer transfer window if they’re to realise their goals this season.

Moyes is desperate to sign a right-winger, and he’s also exploring deals to sign a right-back and a central midfielder.

Speaking after the Leeds defeat, James Tarkowski has shared how many more signings he reckons the Toffees will make before the window slams shut in less than two weeks.

James Tarkowski reckons Everton will sign two more

Tarkowski was involved in a controversial penalty decision last night, as the referee deemed his block a handball, which didn’t go down well among supporters.

The former Burnley defender was also asked by Sky if Everton need to make more signings, to which he replied: “We’re going to give it a go anyway whether we’ve got new recruits or not.

“I’m sure it’s been pretty open that we need players through the door, we lost a lot in the summer, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a couple more at some point.”

Moyes is hoping for four or five fresh faces, but with 13 days remaining, that seems like it’ll be a really tall order.

The two signings Everton could make

If Tarkowski is right, and Everton do only make two more additions, that would be very underwhelming and a real concern.

But, the two most likely signings would be exciting ones, with Southampton winger Tyler Dibling heavily linked to Finch Farm.

Dibling has asked to leave Southampton for Everton, so it’s just up to the clubs to find a common ground on the fee.

The other potential arrival could be Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma, who’s believed to be firmly on Moyes’ radar.

It emerged on the weekend that Everton were keeping tabs on Bissouma, with young midfielder Harrison Armstrong potentially going out on loan.

A telling end to the month awaits the Merseysiders.
