Everton were so poor against Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the Premier League season.
Everton suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in North London, failing to register a shot on target until stoppage time.
David Moyes’ side have sunk into the bottom half of the table in recent weeks and have now finished the campaign in 13th place.
How do you even sum up that performance? 😡
Utterly woeful from Everton on the final day…
They’ve only improved their points tally by one single point from last season, despite a club-record net spend in the summer.
That said, James Tarkowski’s post-match comments were very surprising to hear.
James Tarkowski says he’s ‘proud’ of Everton’s season
Speaking after the game, Tarkowski admitted that he was ‘proud’ of Everton’s season and doesn’t think it was a bad year.
“It’s probably just a sign of where we are at as a team,” the Toffees defender explained.
“We had a solid away record earlier in the season but have struggled to continue that recently. We have work to do and we knew that anyway. We knew we weren’t the finished article.
That was a disgraceful performance from Everton… something has to change! 😤
“I am proud but the way it has ended is disappointing. We were in an exciting position five or six weeks ago so it hurts and feels a bit rubbish. But on reflection in a few weeks time we’ll probably say it wasn’t a bad season.
“We know the size of the club and where everyone expects to be. We’ve got to progress and improve next season.”
The Everton veteran perhaps hasn’t read the room well with those comments as many supporters are furious with the campaign.
There’s been very little progress from last term and Moyes has failed to integrate the new signings, so it’s a very ageing squad.
Tarkowski’s comments do suggest that the Scotsman has been sharing a sentiment that the season has been relatively successful.
13th place is mediocrity, and that shouldn’t be accepted at Everton.
