There was plenty to smile about for Jordan Pickford and his England teammates as they thrashed the Republic of Ireland 5-0.
Everton’s number one was in between the sticks as the Three Lions recovered from an awful first half to score five goals without reply and secure promotion from Nations League Group B.
Pickford was largely praised by the national media for his display, although he had very little to do on the night.
It wasn’t the only success of the night for the Toffees ‘keeper, who also equalled the record of an England legend.

Jordan Pickford equals Gordon Banks record in England win
Sunday’s win at Wembley Stadium was Jordan Pickford’s 73rd cap in an England shirt and by achieving that, he has matched the number of games World Cup winner Gordon Banks made for the Three Lions.
The 30-year-old was handed his debut by Gareth Southgate in November 2017 in a 0-0 draw against Germany.
Since then, the shot-stopper has established himself as the nation’s number one and is well on his way to earning 100 caps at least.
Having picked up back-to-back clean sheets during the November internationals, it’s unlikely he will lose that number one spot, even with the pending arrival of new England manager Thomas Tuchel.
He will have to wait until March to see what direction Tuchel goes in, but for now, it’s all eyes on Goodison Park.
Jordan Pickford will be crucial to Sean Dyche’s Everton future
Sean Dyche knows he is under pressure, with some reports claiming that The Friedkin Group could reappoint David Moyes if results don’t improve.
The Toffees have a difficult run of five fixtures which includes the first Merseyside derby of the season and a trip to Arsenal.

If Dyche is to keep his job then he will have to hope that Pickford will replicate his form on the international stage for his club.
Heading into Saturday’s home game against Brentford, Everton sit 16th in the table, three points clear of Crystal Palace, who currently occupy the final relegation spot.
