Jose Mourinho’s comments about Dan Friedkin this year are now very interesting after links with Everton manager job

Everton have been quiet about the future of Sean Dyche, but the expiry date on his current contract remains so loud on its own.

After all, it seems clear that, when negotiating the deal to first appoint him, he was not brought in as a long-term option.

The former Burnley man had worked wonders at Turf Moor on a shoestring budget, routinely batting above their weight, and the hope was that he could bring that same solidity and hard-working attitude to Goodison Park.

There have been glimpses, naturally, but it has been far from smooth sailing for the Everton manager.

That would therefore explain why firstly his contract has yet to be extended, and secondly why so many names are being linked with his job.

Jose Mourinho took aim at Dan Friedkin after AS Roma sacking

One of the biggest claims to emerge regarding this particular area of the Toffees’ future stated that Everton want to appoint Jose Mourinho to succeed Dyche, with Dan Friedkin set to spearhead that charge.

Having hired and eventually fired the legendary Portuguese coach whilst with AS Roma, this would mark a particularly perplexing move from the American billionaire.

Especially given what Mourinho had to say about the Friedkin Group, with his February comments relayed by the Liverpool ECHO: ‘The European competitions are about to begin, in particular the Champions League, perhaps the world’s most important competition on the calendar,’ he said a month after his dismissal.

‘I won’t be there at these final stages, not because I have already been eliminated, but because I was ‘eliminated’ by someone who knows little about football. That’s life, full of ups and downs, and I’m growing, despite the unexpected and unfair dismissal.’

Everton are expecting Dan Friedkin to save them from relegation battles

Although the time frame for Friedkin’s Everton takeover remains somewhat murky, there have been credible arguments to suggest it will be before the January transfer window.

So, this should hopefully afford them enough time to assess the current state of the club and decide whether huge changes are needed before this season concludes.

The hope is that, at the very least, this new ownership group can pull Everton out of their regular relegation battles.

And, if fans are lucky, they might even see some success eventually too.

Evertonians will know this is far from guaranteed, and if Farhad Moshiri’s tenure taught them anything, it’s that you cannot expect anything from an Everton owner.

However, it feels like there is cautious optimism over this new ownership group, even if they are reportedly keen on hiring Mourinho again.
