Everton have been fairly busy in what has been a relatively quiet summer transfer window across the Premier League.

Sean Dyche has seen his squad bolstered following what was a difficult 2023/24 campaign for Everton, which has led into a disappointing start to the new term.

The Blues have brought in five new signings now this summer with the latest having just been announced.

But Dyche was stringent in the debuts which he handed out on the weekend in the game against Brighton & Hove Albion.

It was only Tim Iroegbunam who played from the start with Jake O’Brien’s omission from the starting XI proving a really controversial decision from Dyche.

However, the fifth signing of the summer has now been completed and it is fair to say Kevin Thelwell has been left delighted with the business done by the Toffees.

The Toffees’ manager was not pleased on the weekend with Dyche even taking a pop at the Everton fans who left the game early.

But it seems as if the mood may have been lifted slightly over recent days with another recruit now through the doors at Goodison Park.

And it is a familiar face which Everton are welcoming back with Asmir Begovic now returning to Merseyside to be the backup goalkeeper.

Speaking on the back of the signing, sporting director Thelwell has shared his delight in seeing the experienced goalkeeper back at the club.

“We obviously know Asmir very well from his previous time with us at the Club, and his long standing as an excellent goalkeeper was underlined by him being first-choice at QPR last season,” he told the Everton website.

“Asmir is a top-class professional and, as well as given us experienced back-up for Jordan, his attitude and commitment will again be invaluable for our crop of younger goalkeepers to learn from.

“His return also gives an opportunity for some of our young keepers to go out on loan and gain valuable experience for their development.”

What Asmir Begovic said about returning to Everton

The 37-year-old has rejoined Everton having departed the club back in 2023 after a two-year stint on Merseyside.

Begovic was still second choice during his previous time at the club where he was only able to make 10 appearances.

However, he is now ready to return and provide Jordan Pickford with a seriously experienced set of hands as the England international’s backup.

“I’m delighted to be back. It was an easy decision when the call came. I had two really good years here before and built special relationships with the staff and players,” he said.

“Everton has a way of leaving an imprint on you. The relationship I have with people here, how special the Club is, the amazing fanbase, and with it being such a significant last season at Goodison means it’s a great time to be at the Club.”
