Everton could not have gotten off to a worse start in their season opener of the 2024/25 campaign.

Brighton & Hove Albion made the long journey north and took all three points with an empathic 3-0 victory over Everton.

Sean Dyche now has a week to get things right as it does not get an easier for the Toffees who now face a trip down to the capital to play Tottenham Hotspur.

The Blues came into the game on Saturday on the back of some positive news with John Textor having been granted exclusivity to push forward with his takeover bid.

But it was apparent the home fans were not pleased with what they were offered in their opening game of the season – and why would they…

Following the game, Dyche addressed the empty seats which were left behind towards the backend of the game in what is the final season at Goodison Park.

What Sean Dyche said about Everton fans leaving

Two weeks lie ahead of Everton if they are going to look to the transfer market to add more to their squad.

Everton have been linked with a move for Barcelona striker Vitor Roque with goals very much needed at Goodison.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Dyche shared his honest thoughts when asked about the home crowd leaving before full time.

It was a dismal afternoon for the Toffees who could not have gotten off to a worse start if they tried.

“No no, it feels like reality at this football club. If you’re not doing well and you’re not winning, then that’s what happens,” said Dyche

After all, Dyche will be all too aware of how much the fans mean to this club and that they are not strangers to voicing their thoughts.

But there will be some that feel there was an edge to his answer.

Ashley Young red card capped off day to forget for Everton

As if the 3-0 defeat was not bad enough, Everton are also going to be without Ashley Young for their trip to north London.

This comes at a time when Everton are already without their two right-backs in Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson through injury.

Considering the Blues are going to come up against Heung-min Son on the Spurs left, seeing Young pick up a red card was the last thing Dyche needed.

It really was just an afternoon to forget.
