Everton are in need of some good news following their dismal opening weekend in the Premier League.

Things aren’t going to get much easier for Sean Dyche‘s side as they now face the trip south to face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

But Everton are going to require a much better performance if they are going to take anything away from a Spurs side who are also looking for their first win of the season.

However, with one week remaining in the transfer market there could still be some positive news brought to Merseyside over the coming days.

There is also room for movement away from the pitch when it comes to the potential takeover with John Textor having been granted exclusivity in his Everton bid.

And it seems as if there has now been some developments in the American’s possible sale of his shares in Crystal Palace.

John Textor left with Crystal Palace ownership decision as Everton exclusivity lingers

Despite the takeover saga going on in the background, Everton remain active in the market following their dreadful start to the season.

Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier is now an option for Everton before next week’s deadline with the right-back position one of real concern at Goodison.

But there may now have been a twist in Textor’s takeover bid for Everton which may just unsettle a few around the club.

According to Duncan Castles, Textor is actually interested in the possibility of purchasing Crystal Palace fully despite being in talks to land Everton.

“As I understand it, Textor would be happy to go and purchase Crystal Palace in full if Blitzer and Harris agree to this and will not give him what he wants for a sale of 45%, he’s prepared to take Crystal Palace in full instead,” he said on The Transfers Podcast.

“So we’ve got a situation here where he is using his leverage at Crystal Palace to try and maximize his return on his Palace shares so he can have maximum capital to invest into Everton and complete that deal and turn into a recovery club, rather than a club that has struggled for year after year.

“Or he’s in a position where if Harris and Blitzer agreed to that sale. He can then decide whether he wants to retain Steve Parish in place, or take over the club by himself.”

What John Textor has since said about his Crystal Palace shares

Since this report has emerged from Castles, Textor has hit back suggesting he is fully wanting to offload his stakes in Crystal Palace.

“In light of recent reports, which we believe may be well intended, but are still inaccurate or imprecise, we feel compelled to clarify our intentions as current owners of Crystal Palace Football Club, for the benefit of its community, and for the benefit of the Everton community which may be affected by these reports,” said Textor.

However, it seems as if Textor may well just be keeping all of his options open for now with a long way still to go in his potential takeover at Everton.

Fans on Merseyside will be hoping Textor’s words are true but it does feel like everything is going to be needed to be taken with a pinch of salt given he does have interests elsewhere and there are such concerns surrounding a deal for Everton.
