After a lot of speculation, Everton finished transfer deadline day by making one signing.

Fans had hoped for a busy end to the window under new owners The Friedkin Group.

Leading up to deadline day there were links to many players but ultimately, only Everton only signed Carlos Alcaraz on loan from Flamengo.

It was reported that there was ‘reticence’ from David Moyes to commit limited funds to deals for players who wouldn’t necessarily improve the squad.

Everton’s recent results have resulted in a much more comfortable situation, and seemingly the feeling internally was that one signing would be enough.

That one signing was Carlos Alcaraz and potentially, he could be a really savvy addition.

There will be fairly big expectations for Alcaraz to deliver for Everton, being the club’s only January signing.

But the Argentine has been on English shores before with Southampton, and does have experience of playing in the Premier League. That will give fans hope that he’ll hit the ground running.

For the majority of the season, Everton have been struggling in the final third, although there has been an improvement since David Moyes came in.

Last night, director of football Kevin Thelwell spoke about Alcaraz – leaving Everton fans an exciting verdict.

He said (via Everton official): “Charly is a welcome addition to the squad and a player who brings Premier League and international experience and, at the age of 22, has potential to get even better.

“He is an excellent ball carrier who can add real quality to our attack, and we think he is a player who will really excite Evertonians.”

The promise Alcaraz has made to Everton fans after loan move

It’s an exciting verdict from Thelwell and seemingly, fans can expect a fair amount of flair from Alcaraz.

It will be good to see another good ball carrier in the team in addition to Iliman Ndiaye, and hopefully, those two in particular can really hit it off.

But fans can also expect some typical South American grit from Alcaraz.

Alcaraz has already made a promise to Everton fans, saying: “I am ready for any challenge with this beautiful club so that’s why I came and accepted the offer to keep fighting for my dreams.

“I want to tell the fans that whenever I wear this shirt, I will give my best, I will give everything I have to take Everton to the top, which is where they deserve to be.”
