Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could be forgiven for being slightly annoyed with the Premier League.
The midfielder has just finished his first season as a Toffees player, and it was certainly a successful one on a personal level.
His transfer fee raised eyebrows.
But it quickly became apparent that Everton had got a real bargain from Chelsea.

Dewsbury-Hall regularly came in for praise from fans for his attacking output, but also his relentless work rate out of possession.
He finished the campaign with eight goals and six assists in the Premier League, and it is widely accepted amongst fans that he was one of the best signings made by any top-flight club in 2025/26.
However, that view appears not to be shared by Premier League.

It’s fair to say that Everton fans don’t have a particularly good relationship with the Premier League.
And their latest decision will not help it.
The Premier League have released a shortlist of names for their ‘Barclays Transfer of the Season’ vote.
Despite Dewsbury-Hall being so impactful and influential for Everton, the league have not included him in their vote of the top eight signings.
The players that are included are:
- Dominic Calvert-Lewin – Leeds United
- Rayan Cherki – Manchester City
- Viktor Gyokeres – Arsenal
- Senne Lammens – Manchester United
- Antoine Semenyo – Manchester City
- Adrien Truffert – Bournemouth
- Granit Xhaka – Sunderland
Now, it’s worth saying that all these players have been very good additions for their clubs.
But to not include Dewsbury-Hall feels very harsh. Perhaps they could have included a more round number of 10 names.
Jamie Carragher described Dewsbury-Hall as a ‘revelation’ as recently as April 17, insisting that he had outshone Florian Wirtz at Liverpool.
But he’s been overlooked, just as he was for the England squad Thomas Tuchel named in March 2026.
It may well be that Dewsbury-Hall’s end to the season has counted against him.
Of course, Everton went seven games without a win to finish their Premier League campaign, and Dewsbury-Hall did spurn some really good opportunities.

He also missed a handful of games with a hamstring injury earlier in the campaign.
But arguably he still deserved an inclusion here.
Hopefully, this snub and narrowly missing out on involvement with England will only serve as motivation for the player next season, as he seeks to improve further at Everton.
