Major error spotted during Everton vs Manchester City that cost David Moyes dearly

Everton will feel hard done by after their defeat at home against Manchester City on Saturday.

Usually, there would not be a lot of frustration in losing against the reigning champions, but David Moyes knows his side could have had more.

After a solid showing, Everton left Goodison Park empty-handed in their third-from-last game at their historic home.

Pep Guardiola did praise Everton for their efforts and admitted they provided his side some troubles.

But the fine margins went in City’s favour in the end.

And it appears the visitors also got a big refereeing decision that went drastically in their favour in the build-up to one of the goals.

Simon Hooper told he made error in Everton vs Man City

Mark Clattenburg says Everton should’ve had a penalty last week in their victory against Nottingham Forest.

The poor refereeing decisions followed them into the game on Saturday against City, with a clear error spotted.

Taking to social media, one journalist sat in the press box said City’s Jeremy Doku was awarded a corner despite running the ball out of play shortly before the second goal.

‘Doku carries the ball out of play, sees his cross put behind and a City corner is given. Everton not happy – replays showed ball clearly out,’ they said.

It has to be said Everton did not put up much of a response, but at 1-0, anything was possible with around 10 minutes left.

The defeat is only the third in the Premier League under Moyes since he was appointed back in January.

But the Toffees are now at a stage in their season where there is very little on the line other than pride.

Moyes has admitted he’ll continue to rotate his Everton side as he looks to hand out minutes to some of his players who have not featured as frequently.

David Moyes disappointed by Everton’s sloppiness

Similarly to his record at Anfield, Moyes holds a dreadful record against Guardiola across his career.

Fortunately for Everton, April is coming to an end after a run of difficult fixtures.

But there is some work still to do for Moyes as he prepares for what is going to be a huge summer.

“They have quality and more to bring off the bench. We’d done a good job of nullifying them,” he told BBC Sport after the game.

“I was disappointed with the goal we conceded. We gave away a sloppy pass and then didn’t defend the box well enough.”
