Everton are yet to make any substantial progress with a transfer target this winter.
Youssef En-Nesyri was a genuine target for the Toffees amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Beto at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and Fenerbahce even accepted an offer from Everton, but the Morocco international has chosen to move to Juventus.
Another striker has been linked in the meantime, with TEAMtalk stating that Everton are considering a move for Jorgen Strand Larsen – who Wolves value at £40m.
Wolves boss Rob Edwards has now provided an update on the Norway international after Leeds saw a bid in the region of £30m rejected.
How much would you pay for Jorgen Strand Larsen in January? 🤨
He scored 14 in the Premier League last season!
Rob Edwards suggests Jorgen Strand Larsen will stay at Molineux unless Wolves receive £40m
The 43-year-old was quite firm when speaking about the Norwegian, but did appear to concede Wolves would sell for the right price when admitting the offer from Leeds was too low.
Edwards told BBC Sport: “That (bid from Leeds) came in earlier this week. He’s been great, trained really well and will be part of the squad tomorrow. Yeah (the bid is too low). We’re under no pressure to sell. We want to try and be as strong as we can throughout this period. Unless we feel it’s the right thing, no one will go.
“No-one’s been knocking on my door (to leave). They’ve all shown real desire and attitude to be here.”
Crystal Palace have also been in talks with Wolves over a deal for Larsen along with Leeds.
It feels unlikely that Everton will enter the bidding war for the Wolves No.9 right now, but that could all change depending on what happens with Fenerbahce and Beto.
Speed of Fenerbahce and Beto talks will surely be decisive factor in whether Everton rival Leeds for Jorgen Strand Larsen
Earlier on Friday, reports from Turkey claimed that Fenerbahce had bid for Beto – and his representatives were holding talks with the Super Lig giants.
If those discussions drag on, it gives Leeds the chance to find some middle ground with Wolves and agree a fee for Larsen, with Everton unlikely to act unless the Guinea-Bissau international leaves.
Finish this sentence: At the end of the window, Beto will be playing for… 🤔
What would YOU do if you were calling the shots?
However, if Fenerbahce can wrap up a deal quickly, Everton will have a space in the squad to move for Larsen, as well as a bit of extra cash to put towards a bid.
