Nathan Patterson has endured a really difficult career at Everton since joining with a big reputation from Rangers.
When Everton shelled out around £16m on Nathan Patterson’s signature back in 2022, there was great expectation.
The right-back was widely regarded as one of the best young talents in Scottish football, but it just hasn’t worked out on Merseyside.
What should Everton do with Nathan Patterson in January after his display vs Forest? 👏
Patterson has been plagued by injuries and has also struggled to make an impression on David Moyes when he has played.
But, Patterson made a rare appearance against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday and has now posted a message to Toffees fans.

Everton star Nathan Patterson admits it’s been a tough few weeks
Patterson has been linked with a January exit for weeks, but his solid performance against Forest may have altered Moyes’ stance.
The 24-year-old posted a short statement on Instagram after the match and admitted he’s had a tough time of late trying to get back fit.
“Happy to finish the year on a positive after a tough few weeks getting back fit,” Patterson explained.
“Clean sheet & 3 points to end 2025. Enjoy your night Toffees & happy new year when it comes.”
If Patterson can stay injury-free, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t remain part of the squad, as he’s shown to be a competent back-up when called upon.
Plus, the Scotland international is still a young player and can improve with more coaching under Moyes, so there are plenty of reasons to retain his signature.
Everton are eyeing Juanlu Sanchez
Everton are exploring a deal to sign Juanlu Sanchez from Sevilla, so if that deal were to go through, Patterson would more than likely be moved on.
The Toffees were actually interested in signing the Sevilla right-back last summer, with a £17m transfer mooted.
It has now been reported that Sanchez could be acquired for just £8.7m this winter, so that may be a proposition too good to pass up on.
Patterson could be used in a swap deal to secure the Spaniard’s signature, although he has already snubbed a move to the Premier League with Wolves previously.
