Everton defender Adam Aznou has not enjoyed the start to the 2025/26 campaign he would have hoped for.

The Toffees did not enjoy their weekend, with defeat in the Merseyside Derby seeing David Moyes’ dreadful record at Anfield continue.

It has still been a positive start to the season for Everton, despite the two defeats now on the board.

However, Everton have had to deal with their fair share of injury issues already in the opening weeks of the campaign.

Jarrad Branthwaite has been out through injury since the summer and the likes of Vitaliy Mykolenko have also suffered issues.

Summer signing Aznou is no exception and it seems as if the German media have given him an unfair verdict on his start to life at Everton.

German media slam Everton summer signing Adam Aznou

Everton fans praised Aznou following his debut in the Summer Series over in the United States.

The youngster made the move from Bayern Munich in the summer, but he is yet to feature in the Premier League.

German outlet Ludwigshafen24 have now shared their assessment on Aznou’s move away from the Bundesliga champions to join Everton.

‘After his highly publicized departure from FC Bayern at the end of July, there has been very little news surrounding 19-year-old Moroccan Adam Aznou. This is quite remarkable,’ the article read.

Current Bayern left-back Josip Stanisic is currently set to miss some time through his own injury issue.

With this in mind, the article added: ‘This must be very sobering for the technically gifted young player, as he was aiming to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup with his national team at Everton.’

Moyes knew Aznou was not quite ready when he signed him in the summer, given he does not have a load of first team football to his name currently.

However, the reaction from Germany would seem incredibly harsh considering his reasoning for not featuring this season is through injury.

Adam Aznou injury latest from Everton

Speaking ahead of the game against Aston Villa, Moyes shared the positive news that Aznou had returned to training.

“[Aznou and Patterson] are both back in training. Patto has not had any football yet, so I wouldn’t put him down as sort of match-ready yet, but he’s been back now for the best part of a week or so,” said the 62-year-old.

“Young Adam [Aznou] got a game at Doncaster a week ago, so we’re just beginning to get them back in and amongst it. They’re back fit. Are they match-ready to play? I’m not 100 per cent sure.”

Aznou has since featured on the bench for the games against Villa and Liverpool, but he did not feature off the bench.

The game against Wolves in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening could be the perfect opportunity for Aznou to make his full Everton debut.
