Everton are yet to get their summer transfer window up and running.

It is believed that Everton are looking to make five key signings over the coming months and another striker could be added on Merseyside.

There are various reasons why Everton have not yet made a signing, yet the Blues will be cautious over missing out on any of their targets to Premier League rivals.

Newcastle could beat Everton to Chelsea striker Liam Delap

It has been suggested that Chelsea want £40m for Delap this summer, which is quite something considering they bought him for £30m 12 months ago and he’s since struggled in London.

Although a new striker is firmly on the radar for many supporters there will remain doubts over the Chelsea striker.

A report from the Daily Mail has now suggested that Newcastle United are firmly in the race to sign the 23-year-old.

This should be music to the ears of supporters on Merseyside as they may be beaten to Delap’s signature by the Magpies.

It has been suggested that Delap is keen to remain at Chelsea, but the west London side could force him out of the club over the coming months.

Chelsea’s valuation of the striker is simply baffling considering they want to make a £10m profit on a striker who scored one Premier League goal last season for them.

Everton have made some poor decisions in the transfer market over the years and Delap has the potential to be another one.

David Moyes spoke to Delap last summer as Everton attempted to bring him to Merseyside from Ipswich Town.

A lot has changed over the last 12 months, though, and the expectation for Everton to pay an extra £10m on his valuation from last summer is laughable.

With Newcastle keen to sign Delap, Everton simply have to sit back and let another team make the mistake of paying over the odds for a player who is simply not worth the price tag.
