Everton have now been handed a hint as to whether they will be able to sign Djed Spence this summer.

It has been suggested that Everton have Spence on their list as an option to bolster the right-back position.

Adding an England international would certainly be a statement from The Friedkin Group given the lack of quality currently in that position.

However, Spence has now spoken about his admiration for Roberto De Zerbi and his excitement for what’s to come at Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham are not expected to be keen to sell Spence this summer after he played a key role in their squad last season.

It would certainly be a surprising move for Everton if they were able to prise the defender away from north London.

Spence’s status at Spurs appears to have become even more concrete following his latest comments on life under De Zerbi.

After watching him for England vs Croatia, I’m convinced he’d be the perfect right-back signing this summer! 🔥

“I think he’s a great manager, he’s a great guy. Very detailed in what he wants to do. I think the boys really love him and have a great respect for him,” Spence told TalkSPORT.

“It’s like what he always says, we’re building a family, we’ve built a brotherhood within the team, everyone has one dream, one brain. I think everyone is on the same path. We can do special things. I think he’s built that environment with this squad.”

This just about sums it up for Everton, with the likes of Spurs already bouncing back from their dreadful 2025/26 campaign due to their managerial change.

Sharing their thoughts on TalkingPoints, there were plenty of Everton supporters demanding that Moyes be replaced this summer.

Spurs have massively benefitted from hiring De Zerbi as it looks abundantly clear this summer that players want to join Tottenham to play under the Italian.

In this case, De Zerbi could prove key to retaining Spence for the upcoming campaign, with the right-back excited for the ‘special things’ ahead.

De Zerbi has shared his love for Spence already after a season that earned the Englishman a call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.

Spence certainly impressed in England’s opener against Croatia despite only coming on for the final 10 minutes of the game.

It would appear that a deal for Spence is looking increasingly unlikely for the Toffees given what has been said by the player himself.

Although there is no harm in aiming high, it is crucial that the club get some players in before Moyes and his men kick off their pre-season efforts.
