Nightmare development for £10m player who pushed for Everton exit last summer as his club give up on him

Everton’s summer business may not have had the impact which they were quite hoping as they continue to struggle in the Premier League.

Having battled against PSR once again, Everton had seemingly made some positive deals work last summer to strengthen their squad.

However, Sean Dyche has been slammed for his usage of the summer signings with only Iliman Ndiaye having made a real impact.

Despite their summer additions, the Toffees continue to struggle at the wrong end of the table with a narrow cushion on the bottom three.

The Friedkin Group have now arrived on Merseyside to try and steady the ship with the January window offering them another opportunity to develop.

But it has not been a huge success for some of the players to have left Everton over the summer, either.

Atalanta ready to sell former Everton defender Ben Godfrey

One decision has been made at Goodison already following their summer business with Everton to keep Jake O’Brien in January.

It has not worked out for the Irishman so far, but it is not quite as bad as things have panned out for Ben Godfrey.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Atalanta are now set to hold discussions over Godfrey’s future in Italy having only just signed in the summer.

Godfrey left Everton for £10m to join Atalanta just a matter of months ago, but is now free to leave Bergamo.

Having failed to set a positive impression, Godfrey has been left out of Atalanta’s latest Super Cup squad to face Inter Milan.

Godfrey was encouraged by Carlo Ancelotti to leave Everton over the summer, but the move to Serie A has turned into a nightmare.

Godfrey must regret rejecting new Everton deal

According to HITC, Godfrey rejected a proposed new deal from the Toffees earlier in the year as he seeked a new opportunity.

The move to Italy has been a total disaster for Godfrey who has struggled to nail down any form of regular game time.

It has been a complete contrast to that of former Everton player Ademola Lookman who is excelling with Atalanta.

Now it looks as if Godfrey will already be looking for a new club for the remainder of the campaign, at the very least.

Tottenham Hotspur have shown an interest in Godfrey in what would certainly make for an fascinating transfer.
