A shock announcement has confirmed that a past Everton target has now exited his club’s boardroom.
Everton have been revamped behind the scenes, as the Friedkin Group and David Moyes have brought the feel-good factor back.
It’s an exciting project taking place at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and so far, the decisions made by the hierarchy have been solid.
Moyes finds it ‘easy’ working with the Friedkins, as it seems a good working relationship has been established.
The choices they’ve made have worked well, but the owners could have taken a different route, and an old target has had some big news.

Former Everton player and Director of Football target David Weir has left Brighton
In quite a surprise departure, former Toffees hero and Director of Football David Weir has left Brighton after having a role there since April 2019.
Weir made 266 appearances for the Toffees, and a return had been mooted before, but this time in a different role.
Everton wanted Weir to replace Kevin Thelwell before he left to join Rangers, but as it’s known, a move didn’t come to fruition.
Fans were left convinced however, as Everton supporters wanted Weir back, as it seems like he could have left the Seagulls earlier than expected.
The Scotsman has finally departed though, and the fanbase might be wondering if a possible appointment could be made now.
David Weir won’t be appointed under Everton’s new football leadership model
Weir would have made a good replacement for Thelwell, but that was before the Friedkins decided to completely scrap the Director of Football model.
This summer, the Blues implemented a system with a football leadership team, which seems to have run smoothly under CEO Angus Kinnear, especially judging by Everton’s successful transfer window.
| Name | Role |
| Angus Kinnear | CEO |
| Nick Cox | Technical Director |
| James Smith | Director of Scouting and Recruitment |
| Chris Howarth | Director of Club’s football strategy & analytics |
| Nick Hammond | Leader of the Club’s player trading activity |
The new look board is running effectively behind the scenes as Kinnear is leading the ambitious project.
It’s quite clear there would be no room for the former Brighton director to join, and there is ultimately not a need for the Toffees to make any drastic changes following the successful operation so far.
Weir wanted to stay at Brighton, and now the former Everton defender might regret his choice.
