As the summer continues on, David Moyes’ side still have areas left unanswered ahead of the Premier League season.

Moyes has checked off some key positions in his squad, but plenty of work is still needed.

Following the Toffees’ 13th-place finish last campaign, the Scotsman will surely be aiming for a top-half finish.

To do that, they need quality striker options, as Thierno Barry has the chance to stake his claim as Everton’s number nine.

Barry’s composure needs to improve, and the Frenchman needs to make sure he doesn’t get off to the same start as one player who signed two years ago on this day.

Everton signed Youssef Chermiti two years ago today

After signing from Sporting Lisbon in 2023, Youssef Chermiti was predicted for great things on Merseyside.

Two years to the day since the 21-year-old made his £15 million move to Everton, Sean Dyche was expecting to have the next big talent in the Portuguese forward.

The six-foot-four striker had come off the back of five goal involvements for Sporting’s first team at just the age of 19, and looked to provide that promise for Dyche, which he has shown at times.

But straight off the bat, Dyche said Chermiti wasn’t ‘Premier League-level’ and unfortunately, that’s been the story of his time with the Blues so far.

Luis Figo has approved Youssef Chermiti but Everton tenure hasn’t started well

Chermiti’s chapter with the Toffees hasn’t had that ever-lasting impact that was expected from the youngster when he signed.

Luis Figo saw a bright future in Chermiti, but the signs haven’t been seen since his move to England.

After 24 appearances, not a single goal has been scored, leaving concerns over the Portuguese’s development, but game time has been sparse.

Chermiti’s statistics in the 24/25 Premier League season

Following Barry’s arrival, Chermiti has now slipped to third choice in the pecking order, which only hinders his chances of success.

A loan spell must be the destiny for the striker this season, and after interest from Championship clubs already, it’s the best solution for his future.

Two years on, it’s probably not what was expected, but Chermiti has Everton fans’ backing, and he still has enough time to make a name for himself.
