Everton fell to a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, although they produced a pretty decent away performance.
David Moyes explained after the game that he felt Everton were always in the game, even when they went two goals down.
“The players knew they could walk to our fans at the end because of how well they performed and the supporters knew how well the players performed,” Moyes explained.
What went wrong for Everton against Chelsea? 🧐
Another visit to Stamford Bridge without a win… 31 years and counting!
“You couldn’t leave today because we were right in the game right to the end, even up to the last minutes we were trying to score. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get back in it.”
Moyes reckons James Garner was the Man of the Match, despite being on the losing side, and Iliman Ndiaye also earned plaudits.
However, there was one Toffees player who really let the team down in West London, as evinced by his really poor statistics.

Everton’s Vitali Mykolenko was so poor against Chelsea
Vitali Mykolenko started at left-back for the Toffees and endured a really tough afternoon in West London.
Mykolenko was up against Chelsea’s jet-heeled Pedro Neto, and it’s fair to say the Portuguese wide player got the best of him.
Who was your most disappointing player in Everton’s loss to Chelsea? 😫
The 26-year-old also provided zero attacking threat, so it’s becoming quite clear where Everton need to strengthen in January.
According to Sofascore, Mykolenko gave the ball away a whopping 11 times, which is a pretty damning statistic.
- 90 minutes
- 53 touches
- 11 possession lost
- 1 tackle won
- 0 accurate crosses
- 0 blocked shots
Everton are interested in Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson
Moyes has been keen to sign an upgrade on Mykolenko since the summer transfer window, and that position remains a priority this winter.
It has been reported that Everton are exploring a deal to sign Antonee Robinson from Fulham, so clearly, he’d be an improvement on Mykolenko.
He’d be an upgrade on Mykolenko…
Fulham are willing to sanction Robinson’s sale if a bid of around £25m arrives, so it wouldn’t be a cheap deal to do for the Toffees.
Robinson actually came through the Finch Farm academy, and it’s understood he would be open to a return to Merseyside.
If that transfer were to materialise, it’d probably see Adam Aznou leave on a loan deal, with Getafe a potential destination.
