A round-up of the latest Everton news, with updates from Goodison Park on the Blues’ interest in Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips and concerns over 777 Partners’ takeover.
Everton boss Sean Dyche is ‘very pleased’ with James Garner this season
Everton manager Sean Dyche is ‘very pleased’ with the form James Garner has shown so far this season. The Blues boss also appreciates the progress that the 22-year-old has delivered during his eight Premier League appearances. Garner has scored one and assisted one goal.
But what pleases Dyche the most is the versatility that Garner is giving Everton. The 18-cap England U21 gem has turned out regularly on the right wing this term. He also made a few appearances out wide last season but mostly featured in the centre after joining for £15m.
Dyche told his press conference: “His adaptability is very pleasing. He is a player that can use that wisely – and he does. He is growing into what he is, and that is a very good player.”

Everton are scouting Tottenham target Kerem Akturkoglu of Galatasaray

Everton have sent their scouts to run the rule over Galatasaray’s in-demand forward, Kerem Akturkoglu, this term. That is according to TEAMtalk, which reports that the Blues have sent their talent spotters to see the 24-year-old in action for Cimbom and Turkey in recent weeks.
But Everton were not alone with Akturkoglu also gaining interest from Aston Villa, Brighton, Nottingham Forest and West Ham. Aksam has also reported recently that Tottenham admire the 24-cap ace. Akturkoglu has scored five and assisted seven goals in 16 games this term.

Gabby Agbonlahor urges Kalvin Phillips to leave Man City for Goodison Park
Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Phillips to quit Manchester City and join Everton or West Ham in a January transfer. He believes the midfielder must now accept it is time to leave Etihad Stadium after Pep Guardiola snubbed Phillips whilst Rodri served a three-game suspension.
Everton are interested in a transfer for Phillips, who joined Manchester City for £45m in July 2022. Luke Edwards reports that the Toffees would ‘definitely’ like to pursue his signature in the mid-season window. But questions remain over whether he would consider the switch.
The 27-year-old, who John Stones has also called ‘outrageous’, has only played 167 minutes with City this season. His plight follows Phillips only featuring for 593 minutes last term after joining from Leeds. So, Agbonlahor fears for his hopes of making England’s Euro 2024 side.
“If he wasn’t sure about his future before that game, he knows now,” Agbonlahor has told Football Insider. “If I’m him, I want to play football. He’s a young lad with a lot of years left.
“Join Everton or West Ham and just play football because otherwise, you are going to affect your England chances.”

Tony Bellew outlines what Sean Dyche ‘needs to improve’ with Everton quickly

Everton fan and former champion boxer Tony Bellew has explained the one area Dyche must improve the Toffees in quickly. The one-time WBC cruiserweight belt holder claims the Blues must make Goodison Park a ‘fortress’ again. He feels Everton are too easy to play at home.
“I don’t know what’s going on,” Bellew told talkSPORT. “The home form needs to improve, it really does. Goodison Park used to be a fortress, teams didn’t like coming there.
“It was horrible to come there, no one liked it and now, it’s a little bit of a playground. It’s turned into these last five or six years and we’ve got to start turning it back into a fortress.”
Everton have won twice from eight Premier League games so far this season with one win at Goodison Park. Dyche’s side went into the international break after beating Bournemouth at home 3-0. The Toffees also took six of their eight wins across last season at Goodison Park.

Finance expert takes a swipe at 777 Partners amid concerns over Everton takeover
Football Financial expert, Kieran Maguire, has taken a swipe at 777 Partners amid concerns over their proposed takeover of Everton. It follows reports from The Times that the US firm has now loaned the Blues £40m. But doubts linger over whether it will complete a takeover.
777 Partners initially loaned Everton £20m to help cover the club’s troubled finances whilst negotiations continued. But the loaned fee has since doubled and is now serving as working capital to pay wages the Toffees cannot otherwise pay with the club’s current income levels.
