Everton are trying to sign Jack Grealish ahead of next season, but Paul Merson thinks Harry Wilson would be a solid back-up plan.

David Moyes has made no secret of just how big a fan he is of Grealish despite only being able to get half of a season out of the winger.

It is understood that Everton are in talks to sign Grealish again, but the Toffees will have to keep their options open given that Man City may look to recoup as much as possible for their forward.

What should Everton be willing to pay to bring back Grealish over the summer? 💰

Everton also have an interest in Wilson, who is set to leave Fulham on a free. Merson believes he would be a great alternative to Grealish.

Paul Merson moots Harry Wilson as Jack Grealish alternative for Everton

The Everton players joke about how much Moyes adores Grealish, which sets the club’s stance ahead of the summer window opening.

Angus Kinnear will have an eye on the free agent market, though, with Wilson proving an attractive option for a number of clubs across the league.

“I think a club like Aston Villa could use someone like Wilson. He’s a good player and available on a free transfer,” Merson told Sportskeeda.

Would this put you off bringing Harry Wilson to Everton this summer? 😬

“I would be shocked if they didn’t go for him. Everton could also be a good fit, especially if Jack Grealish does not sign permanently.”

Marco Silva admitted Wilson is yet to sign a new deal at Fulham, with his future looking more and more likely to be away from Craven Cottage.

It has been a sensational campaign for the Wales international; Wilson has scored 10 goals and provided six assists in the league.

The 29-year-old – who cost Fulham £12m – has not offered a goal contribution since March, however.

Naturally, there will be a concern over whether Wilson would be capable of replicating the season he has produced in London.

Aston Villa are pushing to sign Wilson, with a significant salary demand possibly deterring Everton from the race.
