With Everton having made such a poor start to the 2024/25 campaign, there are already some concerns over their future in the Premier League.

Sean Dyche faces a huge task on the weekend against Aston Villa who have shown their quality over the last 12 months.

But Everton are in desperate need of a result as they await their first point in the Premier League having lost all three of their opening games.

With a poor start to the season comes serious questions surrounding Dyche’s position in the Everton dugout.

Chris Sutton has already shared his amazement at some Everton fans demanding Dyche to be replaced already.

But there is a serious threat of relegation if the Toffees are unable to turn around what has been a dreadful start to the season soon.

Paul Merson shares relegation prediction after poor Everton start

Frustrations are high at Goodison Park with Jamie Carragher sharing what a lot of Everton fans are saying about Dyche.

There appeared to be some positive work done during the summer in the transfer window but the fans are not seeing the results on the pitch.

But the Toffees will be requiring an upturn in results sooner rather than later to avoid being left behind by some of their rivals.

Speaking ahead of the weekend, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has predicted Everton to have a long, old season ahead of them.

“I can’t see anything but a win for Villa here. Two weeks ago, Everton were 2-0 up and I thought they were comfortably beating Bournemouth in that game,” he told Sportskeeda.

“I couldn’t believe it when they lost 3-2 in the end and it sums up Everton at the moment. I still think they’ll avoid relegation this season, but it’s not going to be straightforward and this game is a tough one.

“Villa are a good team. They were unlucky against Arsenal. The problem is when they start the Champions League, where they have some good games to look forward to. So it is important they don’t lose focus in the league and they cannot afford to get distracted this weekend. That’s the only challenge for them now, but then again, Everton don’t have enough in them to keep Villa quiet.”

Everton need a positive performance at least vs Aston Villa

Given there are not many people expecting Everton to get a result at Villa Park on Saturday, a big performance is going to be needed.

Considering they are coming up against a Champions League side, there would be no shame in losing on the weekend.

However, the Toffees are going to have to show their fans something more than what they’ve seen in the early stages of this season.

With a huge game against Leicester City coming up after the trip to Villa, another demoralising defeat is the last thing Everton need.
