Relief for David Moyes as Pep Guardiola makes transfer admission that’s good news for Everton

Everton produced a really competitive performance against Manchester City on the weekend.

The Toffees were well worth the point for much of the clash but Man City managed to sneak two late goals to secure maximum points on their travels.

The injury to James Tarkowski really affected Everton, as his replacement Michael Keane had an afternoon to forget.

Jordan Pickford came out in defence of Keane, admitting it’s difficult to come in from the cold having not played much this season.

Anyhow, clearly a centre-back will be on Everton’s wishlist this summer transfer, especially if Jarrad Branthwaite leaves.

Manchester City have been linked with Branthwaite but now Pep Guardiola has made a transfer admission which will relieve David Moyes.

Jarrad Branthwaite will be a man in demand this summer after another really impressive season for the Toffees.

Though, fortunately for Moyes, Guardiola has confirmed that City are not expecting to sign another central defender after buying two in January.

“I don’t think the club needs central defenders, we have a lot, and we bought two young (players)… but we will see, it is important to have a player who can play there and who can play at left back. That is so important for us.”

He did leave the door open ajar, but considering they invested £63m in Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov just a few months ago, it does seem unlikely.

Everton hold the cards with Branthwaite

The Friedkin Group are desperate to tie Branthwaite down to fresh terms to fend off interest in his signature.

And, Moyes has made it very clear that Everton hold the cards regarding his future.

“You have to remember Jarrad Branthwaite’s got a three-year contract left,” the Everton boss said.

“He’s got two years and a year extension option. So, if anything, Everton hold all the cards regarding that player.”

Everton’s new owners are ready to hand Moyes a healthy budget, so Branthwaite could become a big earner if he stays on Merseyside.
