The three-point checklist David Moyes must now complete after Everton’s safety is confirmed

All David Moyes has been focused on his securing Premier League safety since rejoining Everton at the turn of the year.

David Moyes hasn’t wanted to discuss anything beyond the sole objective of achieving mathematical safety, in fact, he wouldn’t even visit Bramley-Moore Dock until last week.

But, after the weekend’s results, which saw Leicester City suffer a 1-0 defeat against Liverpool, Everton have now confirmed their place in the Premier League for the 2025/26 campaign.

So, Moyes and his staff can now get their teeth stuck into a number of tasks that need to be addressed before the summer transfer window.

With that said, here is a three-point checklist the Everton boss should now work his way through.

David Moyes three-point to-do list at Everton

Extend Jarrad Branthwaite and Idrissa Gana Gueye’s contracts

Speaking at the start of the month, Moyes confirmed that contracts would be assessed once safety is achieved.

“We won’t be making any decisions on contracts until we’re mathematically safe so, we’ll have a look at all that when he get to that point,” the 61-year-old said.

Now that we are at that point, and the budget has become clearer, extending Jarrad Branthwaite and Idrissa Gana Gueye’s contracts should be one of the first tasks Moyes completes.

Gueye is out of contact in the summer and as it stands, he is set to become a free agent, so the club must aim to agree a one-year deal over the coming weeks.

It’s understood that Everton are planning to offer Gueye a new contract, so the ball is very much in his court.

Meanwhile, Branthwaite is attracting interest from Manchester United, who have a long-standing interest in the Everton centre-back.

The Friedkin Group are keen to tie Branthwaite down to fresh terms in order to fend off interest in his signature.

Appoint new recruitment staff

Kevin Thelwell is due to leave Everton at the end of the season, so the club are in the market for a sporting director.

Leeds United chief Nicky Hammond has been linked to Goodison Park after his impressive work with the Championship promotion-hopefuls.

Gary Penrice could also make the switch with Hammond, as he’s regarded as one of the best talent spotters in the EFL.

Those potential hires could now accelerate over the next few weeks, although Moyes has been keen to recruit two of his former West Ham colleagues instead.

Anyhow, that conversation can now be held among the Everton board without the uncertainty of relegation.

Hand Martin Sherif and Braiden Graham debuts

And, last but not least, Moyes can now use these final five games of the season to bed some of the young talent in.

Martin Sherif has been knocking on the door for most of 2025, having been named on the Everton bench on several occasions.

17-year-old striker Braiden Graham recently scored four in one game for the under-21s, so he’s surely not far away from a debut, too.

Graham’s former manager reckons he’ll be leading the line for Northern Ireland in a few years time, that’s how highly he’s rated by those in his home country.
