Everton’s next game is the rescheduled Merseyside Derby – and Liverpool will surprisingly come into the game on the back of a defeat.

Storm Darragh saw Everton and Liverpool’s game on December 7 get postponed, but fans now only have a few days to wait for the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park.

Everton have been going well lately under David Moyes and have won their last three games in the Premier League.

But the Toffees slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Bournemouth in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.

That was the Cherries’ third win of the season over Everton.

But Liverpool also lost in the FA Cup today, falling to a 1-0 defeat against Plymouth Argyle who are currently rock-bottom of the Championship.

After the game, Robbie Fowler responded when asked if Liverpool should be worried about a ‘hangover’ on Wednesday.

Everton losing to Bournemouth wasn’t ideal before the game with Liverpool.

It was a poor day at the office was James Tarkowski, who David Moyes was seen reacting angrily to after his contributions to both Bournemouth goals.

Everton gifted Bournemouth their goals, and the defending will simply have to be much better on Wednesday.

The shock defeat for Liverpool today by Plymouth in the FA Cup is potentially good for Everton.

That said, the Reds did rest most of their big hitters ahead of the game with Everton, and Robbie Fowler insisted after the game that there shouldn’t been any issues.

He said on ITV Sport: “Well for a start they can’t afford it (a hangover) can they? I don’t think there will be, we know there’s going to be a lot of chance.

“And in a silly sort of way, it’s probably done them a favour, because you can’t take anything for granted. You know, you’ve got to go out there, you’ve got to work and make your own chances, and create your own winnings.”

Goodison factor can swing it for Everton against Liverpool

It’s possible Liverpool will come into this game with a sharpened focus after their embarrassment against Plymouth.

But Everton have the Goodison Park factor, and the atmosphere will be absolutely fierce given it’s the final Merseyside Derby at Everton’s current stadium.

Liverpool may be looking to bounce back, but Everton will want the bragging rights of a victory in the final-ever version of this fixture.

Everton will be without Nathan Patterson for the game with Liverpool after he picked up an injury in training, and the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Armando Broja, Dwight McNeil, Seamus Coleman will all still be unavailable.

But there has been something magical about Moyes’ second stint so far, and fans will be optimistic about a huge result against their bitter rivals.
