Everton are making checks on Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza ahead of the summer transfer window.

It was reported on Monday morning that Everton scouts watched Mingueza during Celta Vigo’s 2-1 win against Girona on the weekend.

David Moyes has been keen to sign a right-back since he returned to the club over a year ago, and Mingueza seems to be emerging as a top target.

Is Moyes still underappreciated by Everton fans for the job he’s doing? 🤔

Ronald Koeman has already praised Everton target Oscar Mingueza

Koeman was the manager who brought Mingueza through from the La Masia academy when he was the Barcelona manager.

The Dutchman spotted his talent and actually used him as a centre-back and as a right-back.

Speaking back in November 2020, Koeman praised Mingueza following his impressive debut against Dynamo Kiev.

“Mingueza? He could play more matches as a centre-back,” Koeman said.

“Today he has shown that we can count on him. He has been training with us for 5-6 weeks. He has given us a good impression, and today he has fulfilled, like many others.”

What should Everton be willing to pay to bring back Grealish over the summer? 💰

Mingueza went on to make 66 appearances for Barcelona before joining Celta Vigo during the summer of 2022.

The four-cap Spain international has enjoyed a productive season for the La Liga outfit, registering six goal involvements from right-back.

Everton could certainly do with a more attack-minded full-back, as Jake O’Brien is really limited going forward.

The long-term plan has always been for O’Brien to play as a centre-back, so the potential Mingueza signing would allow the Irishman to operate in his most favoured position.
