Jake O’Brien has come on leaps and bounds since Sean Dyche departed from Everton as the Irishman is flourishing in David Moyes’ new role.
Moyes has brought a fresh new approach at Everton for O’Brien, as just after six months at the club his future looked uncertain.
Dyche was prepared to let O’Brien leave Everton which would’ve been a shocking error after the 23-year-old’s recent performances.
The new Everton boss has incorporated O’Brien into every game since he returned to Everton, but opting to play him in an unfamiliar position of right-back.
Well you wouldn’t call it unfamiliar with the way O’Brien has been playing, as Moyes has revealed the defender’s plans at Everton.

David Moyes tells Jake O’Brien his future Everton plans
Thankfully for Toffees fans, the Friedkin Group overruled O’Brien’s sale, and so far it’s paid off dividends.
After his tough start to Everton under Dyche, Moyes has been impressed by O’Brien, and in his pre-match press conference for the Bournemouth game (16:04), Moyes has a clear outline for O’Brien’s future.
“When you’re a young centre-back, sometimes you get in as a full-back – at the moment Jake will want to be a centre-back,” Moyes said.
“I think he’s doing a good job, he’s got attributes that fill that position, we think he’s more competent on the ball at times.
“Ultimately his future will be as a central defender, but I think the fact he’s getting games at the moment Is really important.”

O’Brien will have tough task at Everton with strong centre-back competition
Despite O’Brien’s performances, he is yet to be really tested at centre-back.
It’s all well and good doing the job at full-back, but if the end goal for O’Brien is a centre-back, Moyes will need to make changes soon.
James Tarkwoski and Jarrad Branthwaite have been immovable forces in defence for the Toffees, so O’Brien will have to work hard to fight for his main position.
It’s all positive signs though, as Moyes’ style of play has suited O’Brien to a tee, and he’ll be more than happy to focus on his game time as opposed to a position change in this moment.
