A round-up of the latest Everton news as Roy Keane issues a baffling claim about their 10-point deduction by the Premier League and Tottenham Hotspur eye a transfer raid.
Roy Keane deals Everton an ‘extreme’ points deduction claim
Keane has questioned why Everton do not ‘just hold their hands up’ and accept the 10-point deduction received for breaching the Premier League’s financial sustainability rules. It placed the Toffees 19th in the table through 12 games, having been 14th at the international break.
An independent commission handed Everton their penalty after the Blues recorded losses of £124.5m between the 2019/20 and 2021/22 season. Premier League teams can make losses up to £105m in a three-year period. Everton intend to appeal against their points deduction.

But Keane wonders why Everton do not accept the points deduction and see it as closure on some torrid years. Even though the Manchester United legend acknowledges with the same breath that it is ‘extreme’. The Blues are only off the bottom of the table via goal difference.
“Could Everton not just hold [their] hands up [and] take the medicine – I know it’s extreme, 10 points – and go, ‘It brings a bit of closure to Everton’?” Keane told The Overlap. “They’ve had a difficult few years.
“We all think from a football point of view they’ll still have enough to stay up. If you look at it you think they’ve won four games, they’ll have enough to stay up and they’ve got a big cup game coming up.
“Try and get a feel-good factor back at the club and just take their medicine and have closure and move on and learn from their past mistakes.”

Sky Sports plans changes to its broadcast of Everton vs Man Utd
Sky Sports is planning slight changes to its broadcast of the Premier League fixture between Everton and Manchester United. That is according to The Times, which has claimed that the network has responded to the likelihood of Everton fans protesting their 10-point deduction.
Blues fans are likely to make themselves heard at Goodison Park when Manchester United visit on Sunday. But Sky Sports are considering reducing the crowd noise levels picked up by its pitchside microphones. It is eager to avoid broadcasting any possibly offensive language.

Tottenham now look to target Branthwaite’s transfer from Everton

Tottenham Hotspur are now considering targeting the January transfer of Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. That is according to the Daily Mail, which reports that Spurs are keen to improve boss Ange Postecoglou’s defensive options after suffering an injury crisis this term.
Club chiefs in north London have identified Branthwaite and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi as potential targets. Branthwaite has impressed Tottenham with the 21-year-old’s form under Sean Dyche at Everton this season. He has played in all of the Blues’ last 10 league games.
