Everton lost their final Premier League home game of the season to Sunderland – and Roy Keane shared his immediate verdict after the game.

Everton’s hopes of playing European football were dashed, after Sunderland came from behind to win at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

How do you even sum that up? 😡

David Moyes’ side are now six games without a win in the league – and it was yet another case of throwing away points from a leadig position.

Brian Brobbey, Enzo Le Fee and Wilson Isidor all scored in the second-half after Everton had a half-time lead through Merlin Rohl, and there were boos at the full-time whistle.

After the game, Sky pundit Roy Keane reacted to the result.

Evertonians are aghast at today’s result.

The league has been so tight, and even going into today’s game, European football was still a possibility.

And mathematically it’s even still on going into the game with Spurs.

That’s what makes this run by Everton so frustrating – the Toffees could genuinely have sealed European football with games to spare.

After today’s result against Sunderland, Roy Keane gave his thoughts about the result.

He said: “It’s a big setback. Do you know what? They’ve had a difficult month or two, conceded some late goals recently.

“This would be a sore one. Brilliant attacking play, Tarkowski, bang have some of that. The striker’s done brilliant for them all season. Old fashioned striker, have some of that, beautiful. Great result for Sunderland, but David Moyes will be… it’s a sore one for them.”

Everton have well and truly bottled it

Getting European football at the end of this season was always going to be a special achievement that perhaps wasn’t completely realistic at the start of the campaign.

But Everton have been in and around it for several months now, and Moyes himself welcomed talk of European football.

To have gone on a six-game winless run at this stage of the season, having led in a lot of these games, points to Everton totally bottling it. Many Evertonians will certainly feel it’s much more than the ‘sore’ one Keane suggests.

Which Everton player should not be started next week against Spurs? 😬

It is such a shame, because the league has been tight for so long.

If Everton now drop more points against Spurs and finish the season with seven games without a win, that could and perhaps should, lead to some uncomfortable conversations about Moyes’ position.

The issue, of course, is that Angus Kinnear effectively backed Moyes ahead of the Sunderland game.
