Ruben Amorim could sign striker Everton bid £17.3m for only a year ago if he arrives at Man United

Ruben Amorim appears to be lining up to take the Manchester United job, and he could go ahead and sign a player that Everton even tabled a bid for a year ago.

Everton are currently struggling slightly in the striker department, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin just hasn’t found his feet after injury issues and Beto has had to settle for substitute appearances.

Theo Walcott even stated that he thought Calvert-Lewin was bullied at the weekend against Fulham, which isn’t something you would normally associate with Dom, who’s a menace in the air.

Just two goals this season for the Toffees, and his contract situation remains up in the air with it set to run out in June of 2025.

The Friedkin Group supposedly want to keep him at Goodison Park, and Dyche has even said that he expects Calvert-Lewin to still be here beyond January.

Interestingly, there was a striker who Everton tabled a bid for last season that would be perfect right now, but it seems as if he could rock up at Manchester United.

Ruben Amorim could bring Viktor Gyokeres to Man United

Ruben Amorim looks set to be the new Manchester United boss, which has sparked rumours of potential signings he could look to make.

Interestingly, Everton actually had their hat in the ring to sign Viktor Gyokeres.

It was reported last year prior to his move to Sporting Lisbon that Everton made a £17.3 million bid for Gyokeres, who was at Coventry City at the time.

Amorim doesn’t seem to rate Everton though, as he suggested he wouldn’t have wanted to play for us.

Given the links to Sporting Lisbon that Amorim has, and the fact he even signed him himself, it does make sense for Manchester United to be the team he could move to.

The Mirror have listed him as a player who Amorim can sign for Manchester United.

Viktor Gyokeres’ fine form at Sporting Lisbon

Viktor Gyokeres has made headlines over in Portugal with his goalscoring ability.

He’s scored 59 goals and provided 19 assists in 65 appearances since joining Sporting Lisbon, and he has 16 goals in 15 games already this season.

It’s gutting in hindsight to know that Everton didn’t do more to try and offer above and beyond for the striker, though no one could have suspected just how good he would become.

With January around the corner, Everton have the opportunity to strengthen in the striker department if they see fit, though Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti are returning from injury.
