Everton are looking at a number of midfielders domestically and on the continent.

It’s understood that David Moyes is keen to sign Hayden Hackney after his outstanding season in the Championship with Middlesbrough.

Everton are also keeping tabs on Southampton midfielder Shea Charles, who is considered one of the best young players in the second tier.

How would you feel about Hayden Hackney becoming Everton’s first signing? 🤩

Now, there is a fresh rumour emerging linking the Toffees to a Sporting star whom Ruben Amorim is a big fan of.

Ruben Amorim loves Everton target Morten Hjulmand

It’s been reported that Everton are showing an interest in Morten Hjulmand.

The Sporting midfielder could leave this summer and the Toffees have joined Atletico Madrid in the race to sign him.

Hjulmand has a £69m release clause in his contract, although he will likely leave for significantly less than that.

Are there any players from the relegated clubs you want to see Everton go after this summer? 🤔

Former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim managed the 26-year-old at Sporting and he was a huge admirer of the Everton target.

Speaking in 2023, Amorim stated: “I really liked his showing. He made a lot of tackles and he was very intelligent.

“He’s going to improve a lot physically. He’s going to increase his goal tally because he appears in the right places a lot, and he even hit the post before scoring.

“He has great ability with the ball, and that’s his main role at Sporting CP. He’s going to grow a lot.”

The 27-cap Denmark international predominantly operates as a defensive midfielder, so he would be a natural replacement for Idrissa Gana Gueye.

Hjulmand is better going forward than Gueye though, as he’s registered an impressive nine goal involvements this season.

Perhaps his Denmark teammate Jesper Lindstrom, formerly of Everton, can put in a good word to the Sporting captain.
