Everton outcast Nathan Patterson was in World Cup action on Friday evening for Scotland.
David Moyes will have had his full focus on his nation’s game against Morocco, which ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat for Steve Clarke’s men.
The game in Foxborough provided Everton defender Patterson with a rare opportunity to take to the pitch.

Patterson is expected to leave Everton this summer, but it was made apparent by the national media that he did himself no favours on Friday night.

Scottish media left far from impressed by Everton’s Nathan Patterson vs Morocco
Last week, Patterson made a brief appearance for Scotland against Haiti in their opening World Cup fixture.
Clarke thought his performance warranted a start against Morocco; a decision he may well regret.
“Surprise pick at right-back. Struggled under a stern examination from Morocco’s attack, especially in first half,” said the Scotsman.
What would you be doing with Nathan Patterson this summer if you were Angus Kinnear? 👋
Surely the writing is on the wall now?
Playing in the right-wing-back position, Patterson failed to nail down a solid performance defensively or in attack.
The 24-year-old ended the game with zero tackles, zero successful dribbles and just one completed cross.
“Off the pace early on and struggled against El Khannouss. One great cross that led to Scotland’s best chance of the opening period,” said BBC Sport.
The cross into the box he did provide may well suggest there is something that could have helped Everton in attack from the right-back position.
However, the overwhelming feeling from the media is that Patterson failed to impress on what was a huge night for the Everton player.
“Not able to have much of an impact at the top end of the pitch,” added Goal.
Having played just 240 minutes under Moyes in the Premier League over the 2025/26 season, this was a big opportunity for Patterson to earn himself a move away.
Jordan Pickford has backed Patterson’s work ethic, but Moyes’ decision against playing his fellow Scotsman regularly appears to have been justified.
