Sean Dyche claims he’s been ‘successful’ with one thing at Everton amid uncertain future

Pressure has been building on Everton boss Sean Dyche surrounding his tactics and approach for a few months now.

Everton have once again found themselves in a relegation fight in the Premier League this season, and it doesn’t reflect well on how Dyche has set up his Everton side.

Many have questioned his pragmatic approach with fans demanding a change, as the Everton faithful believe if they don’t change drastically, relegation will certainly be on the cards.

Lee Carsley has been suggested as someone to take the reins off Dyche, as Everton fans are keen to explore a more attacking approach.

Despite his backlash, the Everton boss is adamant he has shown success in one factor since joining the Toffees in 2023.

The Friedkin group have made it clear they will be backing Dyche, which has divided the fanbase in terms of his future.

Dyche however has defended his stance as manager in the pre-match press conference ahead of Everton’s trip down south to Bournemouth.

Dyche spoke to the media (23:00) on Thursday afternoon detailing, that he is ‘pretty happy’ with his approach: “I know the work we’ve done here, players here are worth 10x what they were when we got here.

“There’s development. The only development the media and fans care about is winning games, which includes myself to some degree.

“It hasn’t been just concentrating on that, my number one rule is to win games but also be successful (in developing players).”

It’s hard to disagree that Dyche hasn’t developed a lot of Everton’s current squad, Jarrad Branthwaite and James Garner spring to mind as two who have flourished

Garner is someone Dyche rates highly and believes adaptability has been key, and that ultimately comes down to Dyche’s approach.

However, as he said himself, fans want more than just development, and that comes from performances and results.

Judging by Everton’s recent run it isn’t good viewing from an attacking standpoint, with the Toffees having only scored one goal since their 4-0 thrashing against Wolves at the start of December.

Dyche has every right to be proud of the development of his players, but the attacking mindset may need to change.
