Everton have not earned much success with their recruitment over the last decade, but Kevin Thelwell has sought to change that
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers sporting director has turned things completely around at Goodison Park, despite results remaining very much the same, creating a much more sustainable environment whilst also steadily improving the squad.
However, whilst he has worked relative wonders, it has not been a perfect run for the director of football.
In fact, some of his errors have been particularly bad, even by the standards of the staff that came before him at Everton.
Sean Dyche delivers update on Neal Maupay’s Everton future
Speaking to BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella, Sean Dyche finally delivered an update on the future of one of his strikers.
And whilst Dominic Calvert-Lewin has refused to sign a new Everton contract, and Beto has been linked with an Everton exit, it is actually Neal Maupay who was the focus for this particular discussion.

The Frenchman has struggled ever since he moved to Merseyside from Brighton and Hove Albion, in an ill-fated £15m deal that has seen both club and player struggle.
However, rumours have been rife that Maupay could leave Everton this summer, without anything concrete ever really materialising.
Well, Dyche has finally broken his silence on the matter, noting: ‘He’s had a real tough run at Everton. They know that, he knows that, we have to wait if something new comes for him or see if he stays here and see what he can give us.’
Neal Maupay has really struggled at Everton
As Dyche eludes to, Maupay’s time with Everton has been a real struggle.
First signed under Frank Lampard’s aimless tenure, his role within the squad was as uncertain as their strategic approach.
For all his people skills, the Chelsea boss just had no plan, and therefore the 28-year-old has no chance of fitting in.
However, seeing him replaced by Dyche must have been a nightmare, and almost definitely resulted in him scoring just one Premier League goal that season.
Subsequently shipped out on loan to Brentford, Maupay has frustrated Evertonians with regularity, with his social media antics rubbing some fans up the wrong way.
And now, ever since returning to Goodison Park, he has hardly sought to build new bridges either.
Maupay even argued with one Everton fan last week as the squad got on the train back from London.
His time on Merseyside has been unsettled and desperately unfortunate. Both for his and the club’s sake, a departure is richly needed.
