Sheffield United fans are all saying the same thing about former Everton striker Tom Cannon

Tom Cannon graduated through Everton’s academy ranks.

Tom Cannon was regarded as one of the best talents on Merseyside for a time, as he netted 51 goals for the under-18s and 21s across 97 appearances.

That saw him rewarded with an Everton debut under Sean Dyche and was then shipped out on loan to Preston North End to continue his development.

Cannon scored eight goals in 21 outings for North End and that prompted Leicester City to shell out £7.5m on his signature during the summer of 2023.

Though, he was given very little game time and now finds himself at Sheffield United, who agreed a £10m transfer in January.

After making 11 appearances for the Blades, supporters are now in total agreement over the big-money signing.

Sheffield United fans rip into Tom Cannon after another underwhelming performance

Cannon is still yet to score his first Sheffield United goal and the wait continued against Milwall last night, with his side falling to a shock 1-0 defeat.

Blades fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and ripped into the 2002-born striker.

“Sack whoever decided to chuck all that money at Tom cannon as well,” @alex0114_ said.

@stecharlescod posted: “Cannon an expensive mistake. Hope to be proved wrong.”

“You’ve also got to ask what does Tom Cannon offer? Chris Porter and Connor Salmon look prolific in comparison,” @RichWsufc added.

@hoppo78 sarcastically wrote: “Tom Cannon oozing class again. Turned the game on its head, what an impact and that’s what £10m well spent gets you. Great signing. (Said no one ever).”

@daisyproperties commented: “Anyone know what Cannon is supposed to do?!”

“Tom Cannon btw. Say no more,” @Jonzysufc said.

Cannon’s sale was right thing to do in hindsight

When Everton sold Cannon in 2023, it was a sale met with mixed opinions among the Goodison Park faithful.

The Toffees were almost forced into the deal as they were restrained by financial fair play issues, but actually, in hindsight, it’s proved to be the right decision.

£7.5m for Cannon looks good business now and Everton received a small cut of the £10m Leicester got, too.

That said, it is a shame to see him struggling at Bramall Lane, but there is plenty of time to turn his fortunes around.

Cannon is still only 22-years-old and did enjoy a brilliant spell at Stoke City during the first half of the campaign.

In fact, Everton were even looking at resigning Cannon in the winter, so it’s far too soon to write him off just yet.

Although, Sheffield United are in desperate need of an instant impact as they fight for promotion back to the Premier League.
