Everton outcast Nathan Patterson has been selected for Scotland’s World Cup squad ahead of the summer.

The news comes despite David Moyes’ decision against using Patterson for large parts of the 2025/26 campaign.

It has been a really difficult campaign for the right-back at Everton, but he has still been rewarded with a spot in Scotland’s World Cup squad.

What would you say to Angus Kinnear after THAT loss to Sunderland? 😤

Something has to change… 😭

Amid Everton’s right-back issues, this is a major indication of just how Moyes has failed to utilise his full squad across the season.

Nathan Patterson receives Scotland call-up despite Everton snub

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has praised Patterson for what he brings to the Everton squad behind the scenes at Finch Farm.

The 24-year-old has played a mere 240 minutes of Premier League football this season under Moyes on Merseyside.

Moyes has favoured Jake O’Brien out at right-back instead, with the 6ft 6in centre-back played out of position all season long.

Patterson has admitted it has been a difficult season for him and it is unsurprising given the lack of trust Moyes has shown in him.

David Moyes’ handling of Patterson has been so poor

Most fans would not have had an issue in Moyes snubbing Patterson and offloading the player this season.

However, Everton rejected approaches for Patterson in both the summer and in January, to keep him around as an option.

Despite this, the defender has been outright denied any opportunity to make an impression on the Everton side by Moyes.

Everton have struggled massively at the back in the games since Jarrad Branthwaite’s injury setback in the Merseyside derby.

Moyes has stuck with his rigid backline, which includes O’Brien at right-back and James Tarkowski and Michael Keane in central defence.

Patterson could have come into the side and allowed O’Brien to replace Keane alongside Tarkowski, a combination that worked well away to Nottingham Forest.

This is just another example of how Moyes has cut off his nose to spite his own face.
