We are now in July, and that means Idrissa Gana Gueye’s contract at Everton has officially expired.
The midfielder’s deal included an option to extend by a further 12 months though, so at the moment things are up in the air.
Idrissa Gueye had an interesting 2025/26 season at Everton.
What would you do with Idrissa Gana Gueye this summer? 😬
He's got a one-year extension clause in his deal…
The veteran played the majority of games he was available for, only missing fixtures due to AFCON and an injury towards the end of the campaign.
His future has been the subject of speculation for months, but a decision has not yet been taken as we enter July.
But if last year is anything to go by, then fans may have an answer very soon.
When Everton could announce Idrissa Gueye decision

Last year, there was a similar situation to what we have now.
There was uncertainty over Gueye’s future, with fans left wondering if he would actually be sticking around. The club, like now, had an option to extend his deal.
Everton finally put fans out of their misery on July 7, announcing the veteran had penned a one-year deal plus the option of a further 12 months.
The last update Everton gave about Gueye came as part of the club’s update on retained players.
The club said in a statement: “The Club is continuing to liaise with representatives of Idrissa Gana Gueye over his future, with the midfielder’s existing deal expiring at the end of June.
Hayden Hackney deal may suggest Gueye will leave
So there is a chance we may be kept waiting on Everton’s decision over Gueye for a few more days yet.
The fact that the club told fans they were still in talks about it may well suggest they have been keen to keep hold of him.
But it has to be said, there is a feel now that he could be on his way.
Everton have agreed a deal to sign Hayden Hackney, who looks every inch like a long-term successor to the Senegalese dynamo.
How would you feel about Hayden Hackney becoming Everton’s first signing? 🤩
Hackney is all-action like Gueye, but is better in more advanced areas.
It was perhaps also significant that Gueye’s wife recently appeared to show their moving-out process on social media.
If Gueye is to depart, then hopefully the club will give him a great send-off, as he really has been a fantastic player and servant for Everton.
