Everton have confirmed they are continuing to liaise with Idrissa Gana Gueye’s representatives over a contract extension.

The Senegal international is gearing up for the start of the World Cup whilst his Everton future hangs in the balance.

Gueye’s representatives are yet to accept Everton’s contract extension, with both parties having to agree to the clause in his expiring deal.

Everton still in talks over Idrissa Gana Gueye’s contract extension

Gueye missed Everton’s final two games through injury, which could mean he never wears an Everton shirt again.

That will not be through any fault of the club, who are trying to secure Gueye’s future at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

‘The Club is continuing to liaise with representatives of Idrissa Gana Gueye over his future, with the midfielder’s existing deal expiring at the end of June,’ read the Everton statement on Wednesday.

Sharing their views on TalkingPoints, Everton fans are split on handing Gueye a contract extension this summer.

The midfielder will turn 37 later in the year, which could well have an impact on both the level of his play and his availability.

It cannot be denied that Gueye has been a fantastic servant to the club over the years, but central midfield is an area that Everton are not short of options.

Everton remain in talks to sign Hayden Hackney, which would add yet another player to the bloated midfield department.

The Blues have already waved away Seamus Coleman ahead of the new season and Gueye could well follow suit.

Gueye made 25 appearances in the Premier League for Everton over the 2025/26 campaign, with serious question marks hanging over what is next for the Senegal international.
