Everton were given yet another reason to move for Senegal midfielder Pape Gueye after his performance on Friday night in the World Cup.
David Moyes is looking to add another midfielder to his squad this summer, with two of his current options potentially heading for the exit.
It has been suggested that Everton hold an interest in Pape Gueye of Villarreal and Senegal.
What would you do with Idrissa Gana Gueye this summer? 😬
He's got a one-year extension clause in his deal…
International teammate of Idrissa Gana Gueye, the Villarreal midfielder could well become the 36-year-old’s long-term successor on Merseyside.

Pape Gueye adds another feather to his cap with Everton watching
Iliman Ndiaye may have set a World Cup record on Friday evening during Senegal’s victory over Iraq, but it was Gueye who really stole the show.
The Senegalese midfielder netted two goals – both of which absolute rockets – in the space of 15 minutes after coming on as a substitute.
Earlier in the week, Everton News analysed how Pape Gueye could be a great successor for Idrissa Gueye on Merseyside.
Let us know what you think of Everton target Pape Gueye’s goals on Friday night… 😳
How good of a replacement for Idrissa could this guy be?
There are a lot of similarities to their games in the way they both provide strong defensive cover.
However, the goals scored on Friday evening by Pape would offer Everton something that Idrissa simply does not provide.
Gueye’s record in front of goal at Everton leaves a lot to be desired having only scored 10 goals over his 236 appearances.
To put that into perspective, Pape Gueye has already equalled that number with Villarreal in considerably fewer games.
| Player | Idrissa Gana Gueye | Pape Gueye |
| Games | 236 | 75 |
| Goals | 10 | 10 |
Duncan Ferguson wants Everton to add more goals to the team, with a big reliance on the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
If Moyes could be see some goals come from the midfield with a player like Gueye that would certainly help to ease the pressure on the usual suspects.
The main issue for Everton now is what those goals may have done to the interest landing in Gueye and how it may have increased his valuation.
Everton are operating on a limited budget this summer as they still have one eye on their finances.
It has already been seen that Everton are struggling to strike an agreement for Hayden Hackney with Middlesbrough negotiations ongoing.
The World Cup typically drums up higher interest in the players who shine on the international stage.
Gueye has certainly been one of them, with his performance on Friday evening potentially set to earn Villarreal a healthy windfall over the coming months.
