Everton embark on their new era under David Moyes this evening as they play host to Aston Villa at Goodison Park.

It’s set to be a vociferous atmosphere tonight as the Toffees look to fight their way out of the relegation battle.

Everton are winless in their last five and have failed to score in four of those, so there’s a lot riding on the clash.

With just one point separating them and the bottom three, Moyes will be well aware of its importance and he’s already spoken about the need for additions to help him in the quest to survive.

Though, with that said, Everton are about to miss out on one of their rumoured transfer targets as Roma have agreed a deal.

Roma agree personal terms with Devyne Rensch

Everton have shown an interest in Devyne Rensch this month with an £8m deal reportedly in the works with Ajax.

Rensch, a right-back by trade, is out of contract in the summer and has his sights set on leaving Amsterdam – with no plan to renew his deal.

That’s put a number of clubs on red alert, with Marseille, Napoli and Roma all keeping tabs on his situation.

Now it’s just emerged that Roma have stolen a march on their competitors and have agreed personal terms with Rensch, according to Di Marzio.

The Italian giants are now working to strike a deal with Ajax, so it seems the Friedkin Group could be about to snatch his signature from Everton.

Everton should prioritise other areas this month

Everton are operating on a limited budget this month so they really need to prioritise certain areas.

There’s no doubt a right-back is needed but it’s not an immediate concern with Ashley Young, Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson all well capable.

Indeed, when Young and Coleman likely leave in the summer – with their contracts up – then there will be a pressing need to bring in a long-term successor.

But for January, Everton should allocate their funds towards attacking targets, with a winger and a striker needed.

It’s understood Everton are trying to sign Lyon’s Ernest Nuamah, which would require pretty sizable funds.
