Everton may be prioritising survival this season, but they will also want to build a strong foundation for a bright future whilst also achieving that goal.
After all, there’s no point in remaining in the Premier League if all this club is to be is relegation fodder now.
Dan Friedkin will want more, as the soon-to-be new owner, and so will the fanbase.
So, all involved with the club will hope that Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract situation, a tricky and unpredictable saga that is adding to unrest, can come to an amicable conclusion soon.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s Everton future made slightly clearer
Speaking exclusively to Everton.News, just days after he admitted that Everton had made a new promise to keep Calvert-Lewin at the club, journalist Graeme Bailey is back with a fresh update.
However, this one is not quite as hopeful.
It instead details the one condition that will now make the Toffees have to sell the striker in January, which would be a sad but necessary state of affairs as his contract continues to run down.

Bailey claimed: ‘Interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin is growing, given he can sign a pre-contract in January. Everton are working very hard to persuade him to sign a new deal.
‘If a new deal is rejected again, they will assess the situation including a possible sale in January – but as said they hope to avoid that.’
Chelsea showed interest in Calvert-Lewin over the summer, but his £25m price tag proved insurmountable.
Everton have a few Dominic Calvert-Lewin replacements
Whilst he is their chief marksman, and a particular favourite of Everton manager Sean Dyche, the Toffees are not without alternatives for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
However, at this moment in time, the only option other than the Englishman would be Beto, who seems very out of favour.
Not before long though, two more players will return from injury, and then there will be some real pressure on Calvert-Lewin to find more goalscoring consistency.
After all, Armando Broja is expected to be fit in November, with the Albanian having yet to play since moving on loan from Chelsea in the summer.
Also, Youssef Chermiti marks an easily forgotten asset that the Toffees possess, with the 20-year-old having taken great strides last campaign before injury struck him down.

If Calvert-Lewin is to leave this January, or in the summer, Everton do not need to panic. They will have the cover eventually.
