The prediction Carlo Ancelotti made about Dominic Calvert-Lewin in 2019 now looks absolutely crazy

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future has finally been put to bed after much debate over what he will do at Everton.

The choice has been made, and Calvert-Lewin will leave Everton.

After nine seasons of ups and downs, David Moyes has agreed with the players that this is what’s best.

On the whole, you’d agree, as the 28-year-old has struggled with injuries and Calvert-Lewin was nowhere near a new deal, so it seems like his fate has been determined for some time.

With up to 15 clubs interested in Calvert-Lewin, someone who will be disappointed by his exit is Carlo Ancelotti.

Carlo Ancelotti’s prediction on Calvert-Lewin at Everton

There was plenty of promise from the striker who was considered one of the Premier League’s best at one point.

During his peak at Everton, the striker scored all kinds of goals, and really impressed as an outsider from the top six’s forwards.

Someone who quite clearly saw this promise and quality was the Italian, as Ancelotti said he was ‘lucky’ to have Calvert-Lewin.

It wasn’t to be at Everton, and unfortunately, Ancelotti’s prediction on the striker failed miserably.

Speaking after Everton beat Newcastle United 2-1 in the 2019/20 season, with Calvert-Lewin scoring a brace, Ancelotti spoke on how good he really thought the striker was.

“He is a fantastic striker in my opinion – fantastic with the head, clever in the box, and sharp,” Ancelotti said.

“But he’s young and for this reason he has to improve. He is a humble guy and he doesn’t talk a lot.

“I think he is going to be at the top in England and in Europe. He has all the qualities to be a top striker.”

Calvert Lewin’s downfall under Moyes at Everton

It seemed like when Moyes returned back to the Toffees there was a chance Calvert-Lewin’s form could be revived.

He was ticking all the right boxes to make this happen from the off, as it seemed like the striker was back to his best in Moyes’ second game in charge, with Calvert-Lewin scoring his first since October.

But the thing that sums up the forward put an end to his rejuvenation, as Calvert-Lewin suffered an injury which had ‘genuine concern’ and kept him out for a large chunk of Moyes’ first few months.

Moyes wanted to give Calvert-Lewin confidence again, but from that point on it seemed like his tenure with the Toffees was coming to an end, and now the striker has one more chance to fulfil Ancelotti’s prediction, but not at Everton.
