Everton were linked with several strikers over the course of the winter transfer window.
It was reported that David Moyes made signing a striker a top priority, and Everton’s recruitment chiefs did explore a number of deals.
The Toffees submitted a proposal for Youssef En-Nesyri, but the Morocco international wasn’t convinced by a move to England.

In the end, Everton pursued a winger instead and managed to get Tyrique George through the door on deadline day.
So, with that said, why did the club abandon their bid to sign a centre-forward?

Everton cancelled their striker search after Thierno Barry’s rise in form
According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton were really pleased with Thierno Barry’s progress in the early stages of 2026.
Barry has netted four goals in his last six Premier League games, and as a result, the club viewed a striker as less of a priority.
The report also claims that Moyes is hopeful of a Beto resurgence after his 97th-minute equaliser against Brighton and Hove Albion on the weekend.
Speaking after the Brighton draw, Moyes said: “But it was about this time last season when he started to score all the goals for us, so maybe he just gets that confidence now that gets him in and he gets the finishes.”
Deadline day is now done… what’s your thoughts, Toffees? 😬

Everton still have a number of gaps in the squad
Moyes was keen to recruit a right-back and had interest in Genoa’s highly-rated young full-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy.

CEO Angus Kinnear was always adamant that any forthcoming signings would have to be right for the long-term future of the football club.
That said, Everton have a number of gaps to addresss in the summer, with two full-backs, another winger and a striker certainly on the agenda.
