David Moyes ‘fixated’ on Everton issue as January transfer priority made clear

Everton are heading into the January transfer window with a completely different outlook in comparison to that of recent years.

David Moyes will always look to add where possible in the transfer window, but there is an acknowledgment across the board that January will be difficult.

It has now been a full year since The Friedkin Group were handed the keys at Everton and drastic change has been made already.

This January will provide Everton with an opportunity to progress rather than require new signings to avoid the threat of relegation.

Moyes was delighted with Everton’s summer business, which saw nine new players come through the doors on Merseyside.

There will be an opportunity for the Friedkins to provide Moyes with something that he’s become ‘fixated’ on improving on Merseyside.

What David Moyes wants to sign in January for Everton

Moyes has admitted he’s not looking to sell Dwight McNeil following recent links with a potential move to Nottingham Forest.

However, the 62-year-old will be keen to bring some new faces through the door at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

According to The Athletic, the Everton manager is fixated on addressing the poor return from the two strikers on Merseyside.

Between Thierno Barry and Beto, Everton have seen just two goals in the Premier League come from their strikers.

The report suggests that Everton will ‘likely’ assess their options if the struggles continue up until the window opens.

It must be noted that Moyes has noticed a more confident Barry in recent weeks following his opening goal of the term against Forest.

Everton are going to need a more reliable option in front of goal if they are going to be able to even put up a fight for the European spots.

Everton need some consistency in attack

The absence of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye will not help, but Everton simply need more from their strikers.

Everton fans were delighted for Barry when he scored his first goal in an Everton shirt earlier this month.

Name some things more likely than Thierno Barry scoring 11+ goals this season… 😬

But the wait for his second is now close to stretching into the New Year.

The 23-year-old has two final games of 2025 before Moyes will have to make the decision on whether Everton will need to add another striker.

In reality, even if Barry was able to score in both of the games against Burnley and Forest, the Blues should still feel the necessity to reinforce.

Everton News understands that Everton are monitoring Evan Ferguson’s situation at AS Roma, but even he would not be a guarantee of goals.
