Everton have sacked Sean Dyche just hours before kick-off in their FA Cup clash on Thursday evening.

It is a decision which will not surprise many, but the timing of it has certainly sent shockwaves around the Premier League.

Despite facing Peterborough United in a matter of hours, Everton have decided to relieve Dyche of his duties.

The Friedkin Group have acted with results failing to pick up since the turn of the year.

With the 53-year-old now out on Merseyside, there are already two frontrunners in the managerial search at Goodison.

Graham Potter has snubbed Everton for West Ham, but the Friedkins have other options on their radar.

David Moyes and Paulo Fonseca frontrunners to replace Sean Dyche at Everton

Speaking to Everton News, TBR Football’s Chief Transfer Correspondent Graeme Bailey has provided his latest understanding from Goodison.

Sources have informed Bailey that the two frontrunners following Dyche’s departure are David Moyes and Paulo Fonseca.

Moyes could make a sensational return to Everton having departed for Manchester United many years ago.

Whereas Fonseca could make a quick return to football having been sacked by AC Milan just a matter of weeks ago.

Gareth Southgate is also a name on Everton’s radar, but it is Moyes and Fonseca who are at the front of the queue.

The Friedkin Group changed their mind on Dyche

Following the defeat on the weekend, the Friedkins gave Dyche their backing with the 53-year-old allowed some time to improve the results.

However, that has quickly changed with the new owners on Merseyside making the ruthless decision.

With an internal review of the club going on until mid-March, Dyche was expected to be handed some time.

And with Potter now off the table, the decision to sack Dyche ahead of the FA Cup clash will come as a considerable surprise.
