A new era at Everton football club has begun.

The Friedkin Group completed their Everton takeover last month and have already made a key decision by sacking Sean Dyche.

David Moyes has quickly been appointed on a two-and-a-half-year deal and will be in the dugout for the Goodison Park clash against Aston Villa on Wednesday evening.

Moyes will kickstart his second spell at the club with three home games in his next four, so it’s a real chance to push up the league and away from the relegation zone.

Kevin Thelwell set to stay until the end of the season

Brighton chief David Weir has been linked to Everton over the last few days and there has been talk of Thelwell being sacked.

Thelwell has come under major criticism in recent weeks for his poor recruitment, with the £30m spent on Beto a notable example.

However, according to i News, the Friedkin’s are set to keep Thelwell until the end of the season when his contract expires.

It’s understood Thelwell was heavily influential in bringing Moyes back to the club, so he’s clearly got the immediate trust of the new ownership.

The American investors are keen to build rather than rip everything up from the get-go, which they did at Roma with little success.

Everton should consider Dan Ashworth

It’s believed Weir is a good friend of Moyes, so it wouldn’t at all be surprising if Everton made him their top target this summer.

But they should also consider Dan Ashworth, who is now available after leaving Manchester United at the end of last year.

Ashworth has a marvellous recruitment record, signing the likes of Moises Caicedo, Alexander Isak and indeed Anthony Gordon – to name only a few.

So the Friedkin’s must carry out their due diligence on the former United chief, too.
