Everton were held to a 1-1 draw with Wolves on Wednesday night in what was a disappointing result for the Toffees.

David Moyes’ side went 1-0 up through Michael Keane, but did not capitalise on their momentum after the goal, allowing Wolves to get back into it in the second-half.

Sum that up for us… 😡

Cannot believe how that second half panned out!

There was chaos towards the end as both Keane and Jack Grealish saw red cards.

Moyes was incensed by the red card for Keane, and was particularly frustrated by the intervention by VAR. But the manager didn’t have much sympathy for Grealish, who sarcastically applauded referee Thomas Kirk to earn himself a second yellow card.

It was an incident-filled game, and here are a few takeaways…

VAR and officiating standards continue to anger

The Keane red card was the biggest talking point from last night’s game, with the defender being sennt off for pulling Tolu Arokodare’s hair as they went up for an aerial duel.

Leon Osman questioned the Keane red card, believing it was harsh on the defender.

James Tarkowski stated that even Arokodare didn’t think it was a red card, and lots of neutrals have laughed at the decision by referee Kirk and the VAR Chris Kavanagh.

There was further frustration for Everton last night, with a dangerous challenge by Hwang Hee-chan on Harrison Armstrong going unpunished.

There just seems to be such inconsistency, and the officiating standards have long worn thin.

Harrison Armstrong looks comfortable in the Premier League

Against Wolves, David Moyes handed Harrison Armstrong his first Premier League start for Everton.

How did you think Harrison Armstrong played vs Wolves? 🧐

Everton midfielder Harrison Armstrong.

The midfielder has been recalled from his loan spell at Preston North End, amid a shortage of players for the Toffees, and this is his chance to stake his claim.

Moyes has admitted he’d like Armstrong to return to Preston to further his football education and development.

But Armstrong impressed against Wolves, and his confidence made him look right at home in the Premier League.

Everton in dire need of key players to return and a new striker

Against Wolves, Everton again lacked bite and Thierno Barry struggled leading the line.

He’s had several similar performances this season. There can be sympathy though due to the fact that the service to him isn’t very good

At the moment, Everton are greatly missing the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Jarrad Brathwaite, Idrissa Gana Gueye and especially Iliman Ndiaye.

Once those players are back, and if Everton can land a proven striker this month, the picture will be looking a lot different.
