Everton are back in Premier League action today and David Moyes is looking to pull off an upset against in form Aston Villa.

It’s been a tough start to 2026 for Everton, with the Toffees yet to win this calendar year.

Poor results against Brentford and Wolves in the league, followed by last weekend’s FA Cup defeat to Sunderland have just led to some concern within the fanbase.

Everton are still in a decent position in terms of the league. But if European football is to be achieved, then the Toffees can’t really afford many more slip ups.

And it’s Villa up next, which is far from ideal.

Unai Emery’s side are in fantastic form and are certainly favourites today.

Here are three bold predictions ahead of today’s clash at Villa Park.

Everton win the game

It is fairly bold to predict that Everton will actually win the game today given the form of the two sides, but we think there’s an outside chance.

Yes, Villa are the overwhelming favourites, and they’re on a very good run at home at the moment.

But it might just benefit Everton to play away from home this weekend, having stumbled at the Hill Dickinson Stadium recently.

There has been unease and frustration in the last few games, although the performances have led to that feeling in the stands.

The lack of tension from the home crowd may help today, and there is also much more pressure on Aston Villa as the favourites.

Moyes is still without some key players, granted. But if Everton can keep things tight at the back, there is definitely potential for a smash-and-grab win in the Midlands.

Adam Aznou gets first Everton start

Last weekend, Evertonians saw Adam Aznou for the first time in a competitive match, as Moyes put him on against Sunderland.

And Aznou impressed, making an instant impact to win a penalty for the Toffees, with James Garner scoring the spot-kick to take the tie into extra-time.

Moyes praised Aznou after the game, and the Moroccan may well have given the Scot something to think about for the Villa game.

Realistically, it is unlikely Aznou will be handed a start today, with Vitaliy Mykolenko firmly established. But it’s not out of the question.

What changes do you want to see on Sunday? 🤔

Everton just need a bit more exuberance and energy. Perhaps Aznou could even be used as a winger with Jack Grealish to play inside.

Or maybe Moyes will be bold and get him in at left-back, finally dropping Mykolenko.

Harrison Armstrong to score first Everton goal

Harrison Armstrong recently made his first Premier League start for Everton against Wolves – and we reckon there could be another proud moment on the cards for the teenager today.

Armstrong returned to Everton at the start of the month after he was recalled from his loan stint at Preston North End.

He is effectively now on trial at Everton, and it remains to be seen if he’ll stay put or head back to Preston come the end of the month.

The Villa game is huge for Armstrong, because Idrissa Gana Gueye will be available for the next game, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is closing in on a return to fitness.

So minutes may diminish after this game, making it very important that he shines today.

And we’re backing him to do so, predicting that the youngster will score his first senior goal for Everton.
