Three potential replacements for Mark Travers at Everton as Coventry interest grows

Mark Travers looks set to leave Everton this summer, which will require a replacement backup goalkeeper to be sourced.

Jordan Pickford has nailed down the spot in David Moyes’ starting XI on Merseyside, but a second-choice goalkeeper will be required.

Although Tom King remains on the books at Everton, the veteran goalkeeper is recognised as the third-choice back at Finch Farm.

Everton have already kicked off their summer spending through their £16.5m deal to sign Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough.

Now Hackney is confirmed, who should Everton be bringing in next? 💰

However, the first Everton exit could be lined up as Coventry City show interest in Travers, which has led Everton News to consider three potential replacements for the 27-year-old.

Karl Darlow

Everton are showing an interest in Karl Darlow, and have even made an offer to the former Leeds United goalkeeper.

There are other clubs also interested, though, with Manchester United also said to have made their offer to the 35-year-old.

A player of Darlow’s experience would perhaps be the perfect option to play as a backup to Pickford, given his ability to push the England number one in training.

Darlow may be 35, but he will arrive at his next club having just played 22 times in the Premier League for Leeds in the 2025/26 campaign.

Angus Kinnear knows Darlow extremely well having helped sign him during his spell at Elland Road.

Whether that relationship is enough to pass on a move to Man United remains to be seen.

George Pickford

Now this could be a long stretch, but academy goalkeeper George Pickford enjoyed a breakout 2025/26 campaign with Everton’s U21 side.

Pickford was nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award following his brilliant performances between the sticks.

What is perhaps most impressive is that Pickford received the nomination despite also spending time away from Everton out on loan with National League North side Southport.

Everton News understands that Pickford will feature in Everton’s pre-season programme this summer.

However, the expectation is that the 19-year-old will likely leave on loan again over the coming months to play regular football in the men’s game.

Aaron Ramsdale

Having returned to Southampton following his season-long loan with Newcastle United, Aaron Ramsdale could be a left-field option.

It has been reported by Sportsboom that Everton have shown an interest in Ramsdale this summer.

Whether he would be open to joining another club as the number two option is another question altogether.

Ramsdale is a huge fan of Pickford. So, a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium could provide him with an opportunity to develop under the England number one.

His loan stint at Newcastle provided 12 starts in the Premier League and four in the Champions League.

Although he has endured some difficult seasons of late, Ramsdale would certainly be a goalkeeper addition that would massively elevate Everton’s options.
