Everton ended the season with a whimper on Sunday afternoon.
David Moyes’ side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the capital, and hardly made them work really.
It wasn’t until stoppage time that the substitute Tyrique George registered a shot on target for the Toffees.
How do you even sum up that performance? 😡
Utterly woeful from Everton on the final day…
Everton have now ended the campaign in 13th place, which is a very disappointing finish considering Europe was on the agenda a few weeks ago.
That said, here are three things we learned from yesterday’s defeat.
David Moyes is beginning to get prickly with certain questions
Moyes was asked if he understood the fan frustration by Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas after Sunday’s game.
The Scotsman was very prickly in his answer, and it shows that he may be starting to feel the pressure, with many supporters keen for him to be moved on for Andoni Iraola.
Thomas: “Given the way the season has ended, there is some frustration and disappointment among the fans, do you understand that?”
Moyes replied: “Well, it’s you firing that question at me… I don’t understand it really… no.”
The Toffees boss then insisted that his side have done ‘pretty well’ this season and noted that the squad has been stretched.
That was a disgraceful performance from Everton… something has to change! 😤
Tyler Dibling looked very miserable on the bench
Tyler Dibling, who has played one minute of football since January, looked very miserable sitting on the bench at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Dibling quite simply hasn’t been given a chance to impress since joining in a £40m transfer from Southampton, so it’s hard to attribute much of the blame to him.
Moyes just hasn’t fancied him at all, even preferring Merlin Rohl, who is a central midfielder by trade, on the right flank.
Perhaps a loan is needed for the 20-year-old, as his development will continue to be stunted under the Everton boss.
How can Tyler Dibling actually turn things around at Everton? 🤷♂️
It's going to need some turnaround from the youngster 😫
Tyrique George impressed once again
Another key takeaway from the game was how impactful Tyrique George was from the bench.
The Chelsea loanee did more in his short cameo than Iliman Ndiaye did all game, so the club should seriously consider activating his option to buy clause.
How do you feel about Moyes’ treatment of Tyrique George? 🫣
It’s clear George should’ve played way more minutes than he has, so whether he even wants to return to Moyes’ side next term remains to be seen.
It would be understandable if the England under-21 international decided against re-joining if Moyes were to remain in charge.
